Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy
The Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy is a Roman Catholic Religious Congregation of Priests and Brothers. Founded in 1970 by the late Bishop Anthony Gogo Nwedo, CSSp, in Umuahia, Nigeria, our congregation was established to reflect and bear witness to the infinite mercy of God.
As a missionary congregation of pontifical right, our members serve faithfully across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. We are consecrated to God through the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, walking in the footsteps of Christ under the maternal patronage of Mary, Mother of Mercy.

Our Charism and Spirituality
Our charism is to be a visible sign of God’s mercy in the world. Following the example of our Blessed Mother Mary, we seek to alleviate human suffering and spiritual poverty wherever we are sent.
The spirituality of the Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy is anchored on five essential pillars:
- Charity: Loving God above all things and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
- Humility: Serving God’s people with lowliness of heart and mind.
- Prayer: Maintaining a deep, contemplative connection to Christ through Daily Mass and the Divine Office.
- Penance: Offering sacrifices for the conversion of sinners and the sanctification of the world.
- Abandonment to the Will of God: Trusting entirely in Divine Providence for our lives and ministries.
Our Mission and Ministries
Our apostolates are diverse, reflecting the universal call to show mercy to all people, especially the poor and underprivileged.
- Pastoral Care – We serve in parishes worldwide, administering the Sacraments, preaching the Gospel, and providing spiritual direction to the faithful.
- Education – Believing that education is a powerful tool for human dignity, we establish and manage schools, seminaries, and training centers to form the minds and hearts of the youth.
- Healthcare and Social Work – Following Christ the Healer, our brothers and priests manage hospitals, clinics, and orphanages, offering physical and emotional healing to the sick and abandoned.
