The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Catholic dogma, defined as an infallible dogma by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950, in the apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus, stating that at the end of her earthly life, Mary was taken body and soul into heavenly glory. It is not a bodily ascension by her own power, like Jesus’s, but a miraculous assumption by the grace and power of God.

Heavenly Father,
Today we rejoice with the whole Church as we celebrate the glorious Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary body and soul into heaven. Look upon us, Your pilgrim people, as we navigate the challenges of our modern world.
By raising Mary into Your heavenly glory, You have given us a beautiful sign of hope and a preview of our own eternal destiny.
Holy Mother Mary,
- Guide our hearts to seek the things that are above.
- Teach us to say “yes” to God’s will with your same humility and trust.
- Intercede for our families and wrap us in your protective mantle of love.
When our earthly journey is complete, lead us safely home to the presence of your Son, Jesus, where death is defeated and life reigns forever.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
