Financial Reports of the Diocese
How the Financial Reports Are Developed
The creation of the annual financial reports is a continuous, year-round process handled with professional precision and care.
- Parish and Diocesan Tracking: Financial tracking begins at the parish level, where dedicated bookkeepers record all weekly offerings, donations, and local operational expenses using accounting software.
- Centralized Consolidation: The Diocesan Pastoral Centre Office of Temporal Affairs’ financial team collects and consolidates these reports alongside the tracking of central diocesan ministries, clergy support funds, and charitable programs.
- Standardized Compliance: All financial records are prepared in strict accordance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-For-Profit Organizations (ASNPO).

How Our Financial Reports Are Vetted
To ensure absolute accuracy and adherence to both civil law and Canon Law, the financial statements undergo a multi-layered review and vetting process.
- Internal Financial Committees: Local parish finance councils regularly review parish-level spending, while the Diocesan Finance Council—composed of independent lay experts in business, law, and accounting—oversees the overarching Diocesan financial matters.
- Independent External Review: Each year, there is a review of the diocese’s financial statements, verifying assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures. This review is captured in a Compilation Report.
- Ecclesiastical Review: The financial statements are presented to the Bishop and the Diocesan Finance Council for final review and approval, ensuring that all funds have been used in alignment with the mission of the Church.
Why These Reports Are Available to the Faithful
The publication of the financial reports is part of the pastoral duty to the faithful, recognizing that temporal goods are used for the mission of the Church.
- Co-Responsibility in Mission: As members of the Body of Christ, the Faithful are active participants in the Church’s mission. Knowing how resources are used empowers you to see the direct impact of your generosity on youth ministries, pastoral care, and community outreach.
- Fostering High Trust: Transparency builds trust. Your sacrificial offerings are handled with the highest level of care, honesty, and ethical responsibility.
- Spiritual Stewardship: Scriptural stewardship calls us to be accountable for what we have been given. Providing clear financial reporting ensures we remain faithful to God and to the faithful community we serve.
